  True story: I had to convince my dad that joining facebook had nothing to do with his credit card receiving unauthorized charges from Amazon. He's still on the networking site, but rarely uses it. I actually think it's an awesome way for relatives to keep in touch. You can see new babies and weddings without having to actually take part in the event (whether you wanted to or not).   According to this CNN article, your social class may correlate directly with your social media of choice. A prime example being the whole Facebook vs MySpace debacle. Not many friends or colleagues I know are still updating their MySpace pages regularly, however there are those few that still prefer the networking site.
