True story: I had to convince my dad that joining facebook had nothing to do with his credit card receiving unauthorized charges from Amazon.

He’s still on the networking site, but rarely uses it. I actually think it’s an awesome way for relatives to keep in touch. You can see new babies and weddings without having to actually take part in the event (whether you wanted to or not). Besides, nothing say’s “I Love You” like a picture comment. I also use it to keep in touch with old colleagues, college friends, and high school friends. It’s like you literally never lose touch with anyone.

It does takes some family members longer than others to really get the hang of the site. After all, it was originally college students only uploading party pictures and such, I haven’t deleted any of those pics and don’t plan on it either. I have no shame. Sadly visitors of Oh, Crap My Parents Joined Facebook probably do have some shame. The site gives hilarious screen shots of status updates and other family related facebook antics.

I feel The Onion gets this hilarious phenomenon best with their video explaining how parents can use facebook and twitter:

Whether or not most of your relatives are on facebook, its popularity can’t be denied.

While I’m not actually able to paint anything on my apartment walls, I have a feeling that when I am able to let my creative juices flow I’ll be picking up some IdeaPaint. This isn’t your typical art supply paint either, it turns

practically any surface into a white board. Talk about the possibilities! Think how awesome this would be in a kitchen or office – no more stupid lists or cluttered fridges full of notes. I’ve dabbled with chalkboard paint in the past, but have never been a fan of chalk as it’s so dusty and dirty. Also, that paint only comes in black and green, whereas IdeaPaint you have lighter and brighter shades to choose from. Plus, white boards are so much cleaner. The paint itself cost more than your typical wall color, but it’s good for the environment, will provide lots of entertainment, and is a sure fire conversation piece! Pictionary anyone?

Anyone that follows me on twitter knows that I’ve been looking for a new job for a few months now. I’m currently down to one client at my current company and my boss isn’t exactly “with it.” Times are changing and she really doesn’t grasp the impact of social media on pr and marketing. Earlier this week I had to show her how to rename a folder on her computer (not kidding). When she got her iPhone at lot of time was spent teaching her tricks on that. She doesn’t understand how to un-subscribe from the 100′s of mailing lists she’s on, so she spends her day checking email and reading USA Today. Oh and yesterday was a big step because I got rid of her VCR from the 80′s. If you were wondering what they looked like when they were first invented, then this picture is for you.

Meanwhile, I spend my days working on our one client, looking for a new job, blogging, and reading news on the internet. All of this actually keeps me pretty busy. Oh and when my boss goes to pilates I catch up on Glee and Modern Family. However, a lot times my day can really drag by minute-by-painful-minute. I like being busy and am actually good at what I do.

Looking for a job has literally been worse than dating. Although, I have had a BF for years now, and haven’t actually been dating I’d rather mingle with douche bags than endure the tiring job search process. I get on average an interview a week. This is actually impressive considering LA is uber competitive and shows I have a strong resume. I’ve been jumping through everyone’s hoops, networking, and the like and still not a solid offer, only interest. I’ve completed writing samples, physically went in for writing tests, submitted writing samples, have an impressive portfolio of media placements and more writing samples. My personality is very likable and obviously I’m a pretty damn good dresser, but I keep getting passed over. I’ve gotten some excuses like:

I don’t have enough experience in a niche area. Um… Didn’t you read my resume before calling me in for an interview? I can learn.

Recruiters just fishing to get potential hires in for interviews. Stop wasting my time and yours.

The job no longer exists / they can’t afford to hire anyone. I probably don’t want to work for you anyway then – I want stability.

Never got expected clients, no need for a new hire. Not a big enough company, call me when you’re looking to grow?

The vanisher. No responses to emails, calls, etc. Probably a shady small organization.

I somehow remain optimistic and believe things happen for a reason and eventually, hopefully sooner rather than later, I’ll land that awesome stable job with benefits and savvy people I’ve been dreaming of. Until then it’s back to my daily grind of internet antics.

According to this CNN article, your social class may correlate directly with your social media of choice. A prime example being the whole Facebook vs MySpace debacle.

Not many friends or colleagues I know are still updating their MySpace pages regularly, however there are those few that still prefer the networking site. I know right, *those* people that apparently still can’t get on the facebook bandwagon and are still editing their MySpace profiles. Weird, I know. Not all people can adapt to a new social networking site as fast as others. Once people are comfortable and set in their ways with something, change does not come easy (like most things in life).

The article also reports that, “Even more affluent are users of Twitter, the microblogging site, and LinkedIn, a networking site geared to white-collar professionals. Almost 38 percent of LinkedIn users earn more than $100,000 a year.” Hmm…I use Twitter and LinkedIn and my income has yet to reach those levels. Obviously every statistic varies per person, but I’d say that they do have some good points and the statistics don’t lie.
