Unisex = mainstream cross-dressing

agyness.

The crew over at TrendHunter.tv nailed the unisex fashion trend with their latest video “Mainstream Cross-Dressing.”  With top models like Agyness Deyn being portrayed in a more masculine sense and males swapping for more glam, metro, or fem looks the gender lines are blurred more than ever before.

So lets have some laughs along with it!

40 years, 140 countries

Who didn’t grow up watching Big Bird, Elmo, Cookie Monster, and the whole gang? Hard to believe that Sesame Street has been around for FORTY years – I can’t think of any other entertainment show that has been on that long and is still popular! Sesame Street is also broadcast in over 140 countries – unbelievable! Today’s episode features First Lady, Michelle Obama teaching kids how to plant vegetables. The show plans to get its green on the next few years with more environmental education skits.

Where the dirty hipsters are

You’re probably thinking they’re in Sunset Junction, but no the hilarity over at SecretSauce.tv made a parody Where The Wild Things Are trailer featuring LA hipsters. What’s funny is there is no park on Sunset & La Brea and I remember being at the Bigfoot Lodge and telling my friend that they filmed Yes Man and The Hills there. Oh and if you’re not familiar with hipster speak, PBR = Pabst Blue Ribbon. Enjoy!

Vogue: then and now

With magazines folding faster than a bad hand at poker, perhaps it’s time they ventured back to their roots? Vogue particularly could lose some of the tacky fonts and cheesy headlines and in turn focus on glamour, art, style, and oh yeah…fashion. Perhaps highlighting those areas can attribute to the success of Flaunt, Nylon, and Eliza. Fresher and more modern magazines that really know their target market and cater to it. Regardless, it’s interesting to see Vogue’s evolution below. Boy how times have changed!

Fashion’s Night Out. Part deux.

fashions night out 2010

Fashion’s Night Out received lots of publicity as a way of kick starting New York Fashion Week and aiding struggling (and not-so-struggling) retailers. So when something works well – why not do it again? Except, do it bigger, better, and with a more global reach. Well, that seems to be the aim for the next wave of Fashion’s Night Out events already in the planning stages for September 9, 2010.

It was obviously a HUGE hit in NYC, who doesn’t like parties with free champagne? Retail sales were significantly increased for the evening and almost all party goers purchased a lil somethin’ somethin’. But that was NYC, in LA however there were a few events around town, but wasn’t really a huge deal. Saks Fifth Ave and a few boutiques got into the action, but nothing on the NY scale. That may change next year, with more boutiques looking to capitalize on the event’s publicity and the lure of a better economy in the coming new year.

After the programs success this past year, plans are being made to stage FNO once again in places such as London, Paris, Milan, Berlin, Madrid, Moscow, Athens, Taipei, Tokyo, Beijing, Sao Paolo and New Delhi.

“The international Vogues want to make good things happen for our readers and for the fashion and retail industries,” commented Jonathan Newhouse, Chairman of Condé Nast International. “Fashion’s Night Out was highly successful, generating more store traffic and higher sales, and it was a lot of fun too. We are proud to be leading the effort again.”

Vogue‘s Editor in chief:

“We were absolutely bowled over by the response to Fashion’s Night Out. It was only fifteen minutes after the event began and we were getting reports about lines around the block at stores throughout the city,” said Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour. “It was wonderful to see people embrace this initiative, and we are thrilled that they wish it to return.

It’ll be interesting to see if FNO events in LA reach the large scale of NY, or if anywhere else on the globe compares with NYC’s shopping power. We’re more casual out in the wild wild west – we can shop any day of the week. We shall see what thrilling soriees are in store for us Sept 9, 2010.

Oh Crap. Family on Facebook

True story: I had to convince my dad that joining facebook had nothing to do with his credit card receiving unauthorized charges from Amazon.

He’s still on the networking site, but rarely uses it. I actually think it’s an awesome way for relatives to keep in touch. You can see new babies and weddings without having to actually take part in the event (whether you wanted to or not). Besides, nothing say’s “I Love You” like a picture comment. I also use it to keep in touch with old colleagues, college friends, and high school friends. It’s like you literally never lose touch with anyone.

It does takes some family members longer than others to really get the hang of the site. After all, it was originally college students only uploading party pictures and such, I haven’t deleted any of those pics and don’t plan on it either. I have no shame. Sadly visitors of Oh, Crap My Parents Joined Facebook probably do have some shame. The site gives hilarious screen shots of status updates and other family related facebook antics.

I feel The Onion gets this hilarious phenomenon best with their video explaining how parents can use facebook and twitter:

Whether or not most of your relatives are on facebook, its popularity can’t be denied.
