According to this CNN article, your social class may correlate directly with your social media of choice. A prime example being the whole Facebook vs MySpace debacle.

Not many friends or colleagues I know are still updating their MySpace pages regularly, however there are those few that still prefer the networking site. I know right, *those* people that apparently still can’t get on the facebook bandwagon and are still editing their MySpace profiles. Weird, I know. Not all people can adapt to a new social networking site as fast as others. Once people are comfortable and set in their ways with something, change does not come easy (like most things in life).

The article also reports that, “Even more affluent are users of Twitter, the microblogging site, and LinkedIn, a networking site geared to white-collar professionals. Almost 38 percent of LinkedIn users earn more than $100,000 a year.” Hmm…I use Twitter and LinkedIn and my income has yet to reach those levels. Obviously every statistic varies per person, but I’d say that they do have some good points and the statistics don’t lie.

When that Disney fantasy ends a not so fairy tale life begins. Well, at least that’s how it goes in real life. Photographer Dina Goldstein showcases a fresh perspective on our beloved childhood role models.

She says, “As a young girl, growing up abroad, I was not exposed to Fairy tales. These new discoveries lead to my fascination with the origins of Fairy tales. I explored the original brothers Grimm’s stories and found that they have very dark and sometimes gruesome aspects, many of which were changed by Disney. I began to imagine Disney’s perfect Princesses juxtaposed with real issues that were affecting women around me, such as illness, addiction and self-image issues.”

I love it and I’m a huge fan of her other photography – like this sad photo here.

The Sunset Strip Music Fest is the best outdoor concert I’ve been to in a long time. It’s kind of like a grown up warped tour, like what happens when all those angst ridden teenagers grow up. Musical and fashion tastes evolved, but surprisingly everyone was extremely nice and there was a fresh sense of camaraderie. Oh, the music was pretty awesome too. I got there kind of late, but did manage to catch KoRn, Shwayze, LMFAO, and Ozzy Osbourne. Love that there is finally a unique music fest that I can WALK too and that isn’t super corporate or expensive, I will for sure be back next year!

The Pretties couldn’t make it to the GenArt show on Friday, but Racked LA had great coverage on that. Let’s just say that there was fashion, alcohol, and the only celeb spottings were Ron Jeremy and Slade Smiley (Real Housewives of OC).

We did show up the next two days and experienced quite a spectacle. Here’s our Saturday rundown:

Upon first arrival I felt more like I was attending a rock concert than a fashion show. The DJ was bumpin’ Limp Bizkit and Sir Mix-a-lot. Is is 1995 again? We learned later in the evening, that yes it is. The crowd was sparse and it was a cash bar (WTF!?), things were not looking good.

The first show we checked out men’s line COA. The highlights were definitely the bright colored denim and a shirtless model, always a crowd pleaser; even though the designer missed an opportunity to show an item.

Next it was downstairs for Future Heretics, where I was given numerous mixed signals: “yes you can sit here”, “no you can’t sit there”, “sit here” and finally, “no we’re not seating for the show yet.” This is when I proceeded to the bar and bought one of those delicious $10 blueberry drinks with extra ice.

Alas, they were seating the show and I made my way inside. Future Heretics has some great LA street style mixed with distressed bleach stained denim, the 90′s are creeping back into style. The audience seemed to eat it up.

Laeken brought us bright hues with a bounce, while MartinMartin put fear into our eyes, literally. Dreary music and colored bangs were distracting us from the fashion. Maybe goth is back due to the sad economy? Or maybe someone just needs a hug? I don’t know, but I was bored. It actually reminded me of exactly how this one guy in middle school dressed during ahem, you guessed it, the 90s! Doc Martins and all.
The last show of the evening was UNIF who had us rockin’ out to their best of the 90′s mix. The highlight there was bright colored flannel with acid washed denim and topped off with Doc Martins. Was there a big clearance sale somewhere?

To us the star of the evening was Skin Graft! We’re talking REAL innovation here I couldn’t get enough of the elaborate details, ruffles, fabrics, feathers, and embellishments. It was like breath of fashion air after 90′s flashbacks. They even know how to put on a show with an elaborate opening dance number. I also loved that they took the effort to put a brochure on every seat that had info about the collection. Multi-talented and very professional; I think they are the designers to keep an eye out for. I could easily see a celebrity (or myself) wearing one of their pieces. Margaret Cho was in the audience, she recently sported Skin Graft on the cover of Coilhouse Magazine. Racked LA has show pics.

If you’re not familiar with the magic that is Condé Nast, they’re the publishing company that makes all those magazines that you’re too busy to read. Including: GQ, Vogue, Vanity Fair, Wired, and so forth. We all knew they were doing bad; but it seems like the infamous address 4 Times Square is turning into Poor Times Square. As stated in a recent New York Post article:

“They are having the worst year of any publisher,” said one rival executive who once worked at Condé Nast and said the company’s recent cuts of 5 percent each on expenses and staffing isn’t enough.

“They are overstaffed and overpaid. They should have cut back 20 percent when they cut back five,” this person said.

The company can barely give out subscriptions these days. They’re trying everything along with slashing prices. They desperately need to keep their subscriptions up, so their circulation remains high for advertising sales. For instance, see this GQ offer, (so debbie):

I can live without the “made in China” messenger bag. Is any publication able to persevere through this doom and gloom? Yes, actually there is. “Only one magazine in its stable is showing a rise over a year ago: Golf World, a small circulation weekly, that is up 16.5 percent through the Feb. 23 issue.” said the NY Post article.

Does that mean put down the Vogue (which totally sucks these days anyways) and pick up Golf World?
