Fashion’s Night Out. Part deux.

Fashion’s Night Out received lots of publicity as a way of kick starting New York Fashion Week and aiding struggling (and not-so-struggling) retailers. So when something works well – why not do it again? Except, do it bigger, better, and with a more global reach. Well, that seems to be the aim for the next wave of Fashion’s Night Out events already in the planning stages for September 9, 2010.

It was obviously a HUGE hit in NYC, who doesn’t like parties with free champagne? Retail sales were significantly increased for the evening and almost all party goers purchased a lil somethin’ somethin’. But that was NYC, in LA however there were a few events around town, but wasn’t really a huge deal. Saks Fifth Ave and a few boutiques got into the action, but nothing on the NY scale. That may change next year, with more boutiques looking to capitalize on the event’s publicity and the lure of a better economy in the coming new year.

After the programs success this past year, plans are being made to stage FNO once again in places such as London, Paris, Milan, Berlin, Madrid, Moscow, Athens, Taipei, Tokyo, Beijing, Sao Paolo and New Delhi.

“The international Vogues want to make good things happen for our readers and for the fashion and retail industries,” commented Jonathan Newhouse, Chairman of Condé Nast International. “Fashion’s Night Out was highly successful, generating more store traffic and higher sales, and it was a lot of fun too. We are proud to be leading the effort again.”

Vogue‘s Editor in chief:

“We were absolutely bowled over by the response to Fashion’s Night Out. It was only fifteen minutes after the event began and we were getting reports about lines around the block at stores throughout the city,” said Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour. “It was wonderful to see people embrace this initiative, and we are thrilled that they wish it to return.

It’ll be interesting to see if FNO events in LA reach the large scale of NY, or if anywhere else on the globe compares with NYC’s shopping power. We’re more casual out in the wild wild west – we can shop any day of the week. We shall see what thrilling soriees are in store for us Sept 9, 2010.
